Lauren Rutherford
About Me
Hello there! My name is Lauren, and I recently relocated from London to Melbourne, where I am thrilled to begin teaching Pilates at Prana House. I moved to London nearly nine years ago to pursue my training in acting at a drama school. Upon graduating, I decided to undertake Pilates training to seamlessly integrate teaching and working with Auditioning.
With a background in dance and performing arts, movement and exercise have always been integral to my self-care routine. I am passionate about the healing power of movement; it is remarkable how just thirty minutes of physical activity can positively influence one's mindset. In addition to my interests in acting and Pilates, I am an avid reader of romance novels, a sun enthusiast, and I have a keen interest in self-development, psychology, and natural healing practices. I also enjoy sharing a bottle of wine with friends while taking in a beautiful view.
I look forward to contributing to the Prana House community and sharing my passion for movement and wellness with all of you.
Pilates Influences & Teaching Style
My Pilates style is a unique blend of classic technique and creative flair, influenced by my background in dance and passion for music. I'm always on the lookout for innovative ways to engage the body and challenge the core, making movement a joyful and expressive experience. While I draw from the timeless principles developed by Joseph Pilates, I also love to introduce fresh and dynamic elements to keep your sessions exciting and engaging.
Why do you practice Pilates?
When I practice Pilates, the outside world seems to fade away, creating an opportunity to fully connect with my body and embrace the present moment. Pilates is not just about movement; it’s a journey of self-discovery that cultivates a deeper relationship with our bodies—one that truly deserves care and attention. I believe in the incredible healing power of movement and breath, and my aim is for you to leave each class feeling nurtured, nourished, and rejuvenated
Why do you teach?
I love teaching because I enjoy connecting with people and building relationships. I believe that having a safe space and a strong community is essential for maintaining a consistent workout routine. Staying accountable and enjoying the social aspect make all the difference! The motivation that comes from sharing the space with others is inspiring, and I truly cherish the opportunity to guide people through the practice and releasing those endorphins together!
Favourite exercise
My favourite traditional Pilates exercise has to be "The Roll Up." I’ve witnessed even the fittest individuals get challenged by this deceptively simple move. It engages those deep core muscles that often go unnoticed in standard gym workouts, highlighting just how crucial Pilates is for building strength, improving posture, and enhancing flexibility and balance. It serves as a humbling reminder for those gym-goers who might think Pilates is too easy to overlook its value! It's truly my guilty pleasure.
