Justin Brady Music & Phil Collings
July 7 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm$25
Justin Brady Music
Justin Brady, the multi instrumentalist is well known for his role as an original key member of the ARIA Award winning group ” Things Of Stone & Wood ” and as a Gold harmonica champion as well as contributing to many major musical acts in the country recordings and touring. For the first time, Justin is now doing his own project which is a dynamic performance of contemporary folk and roots music mixed with some haunting original pieces that reflect our landscape and culture. The performance allows for some high energy improvisations between Justin’s fiddle, mandolin and electrifying harmonica and a masterful and colourful drummer, Phil Collings.
Reflections of life are woven throughout the songs which are the story of Justin’s musical journey.
Phil performs in a variety of musical contexts, ranging from the real-time composition and dissection of form and melody in The Borrowed Time Trio and ReAssemble, to the rock stylings of Australian rock iconoclast Kim Salmon, to the linear and dexterous compositions of Australian composer Kate Neal.
He approaches every musical situation with the aim of creating an individual timbre set and a vocabulary unique to each scenario, which involves combining various sets of cymbals, drums and percussion to provide the desired palette.
Currently Phil is performing with the artists: the Borrowed Time Trio, Ben Carr Trio, Mike Brady, Stu Thomas Paradox, Dan Flynn and the State of Things (Bass), Justin Brady, Mikelangelo, P2, ReAssemble, Kim Salmon & The Surrealists and the Phil Collings Trio.
Phil is also touring with the Ilbijerri Theatre Company production of Jack Charles V The Crown, which has just returned from seasons at the Barbican in London and the Dublin Theatre Festival (2014). The 2013 Australian tour won the coveted Helpmann Award for Best Regional Touring Production.
Phil has led and written for his own projects, namely the Phil Collings Trio, which played the Apollo Bay Music Festival on the back of the 2003 CD release of Music Room – Phil Collings Trio, and has a composition featured on the ABC Jazztrack 30th Anniversary Album.
Phil plays Yamaha drums, Paiste cymbals, Axis pedals, Silverfox sticks and brushes.
